Motivating the unmotivated

Standard

I enjoyed this video of Carol Quinn and she taught me about motivating the unmotivated.  She explained that the middle performers need help with figuring out their true potential. Carol explains or deal with obstacles is by teaching the people to achieve the right outcome.

The highly motivated people always stand out; they are the ones always wanting to lend a hand.  The ones going that extra mile and always making sure things are right.  I would look for many achievements, awards, extra certifications, community service and any type of local clubs or boards.

M-O-T-I-V-A-T-I-O-N!

I was very surprised with the stories of failure and tragedy, these people have experienced.  I also thought about how that was life and things happened.  The great thing is these people achieve even after something horrible happened.  I believe I can help others by giving them positive advice and guidance.

Even just being there to listen to someone’s problems or a simple “Great job” can motivate anyone.  I think I failed at being more active within the community of Fairbanks or even on Fort Wainwright.

Confidence Vs. Argent

Standard

The video discussed two concepts, confidence and argent in leadership. The confidence leader is someone that’s determined and exposes integrity. The Argent leader will blame everyone and will never take reasonability. Some that that is a confidence leader will be someone we can trust with a higher responsibility. The Argent leader is someone that throws all the work at everyone else and if the work is wrong will definitely throw you under the bus and say it was your fault. Always be truthful and show respect to others and your true leadership skills will come out.

Personality As an Element of Diversity

Standard

Diversity has a huge impact on our own personal traits even the way we act towards others.  Can a personality test really figure out a person, by just answering a few questions?  I have personnel never came about having to take a personality test, but I see this as a great idea.  If having to decide how to group certain people together or just so the HR can better understand their employees somewhat.

I do see this as a positive tool to use when trying to place people to work together.  But when it comes to hiring well I don’t see a great idea.  The article talks a lot about grouping people together and identifying personality traits.  When everyone gets a long it makes things easier and brings less stress to the project, which leads to a great turn out.

The text gives a great example about “The Myers-Briggs Type indicator,” helps me better understanding of the types of results that come out of the test. The test also gave of info about defining personality, Measuring Personality, the determinants of Personality and different personality traits.

What to Do When Employee Behavior Changes

Standard

The environment we work in controls a lot of emotion.  Having my own bad experience with an old bank manager that was just straight out rude.  It got to the point where we all hated to come to work and every time she was around everyone felt a hateful feeling in the room.  It than lead to three of us changing locations because of the way we felt when we worked.  It wasn’t a happy place when she was there.  It’s best to have a place where everyone can enjoy their work environment and not feel offended or uncomfortable when they go to work.  They shouldn’t have to worry or think about having a bad day at work.

In a time of financial needs the manager should just be able to provide additional information where people could talk to someone.  They mentioned the EAP program; most employers have some type of program that can assist their employees.  We should take advantage whenever necessary.  Having a program like EAP is a big plus for that employer and employees.

Cradle-to-Grave Work Ethic

Standard

This article gave me a better sense of how much effort the people of japan put in to their work.  Even after the earthquake and tsunami people went right back to work, especially the employers that stood by their staff in a time of devastation.  It also made me think if staying at one job for a long time is really worth it.  From what I know Japanese’s are always very hard working and reliable.

I feel that my current employer is very committed to her staff.  Our boss makes sure that we have everything we need and are always taken care of.  She is willing to work with us on anything we need help with and even willing to talk.  I think having an employer that is committed to their staff is very important.  Having a boss that you can talk to and that actually cares about you and your family is always a plus.

I think job security is a must; we want to go to work every day knowing that our job is still there.  Also with job security it gives us a scene of relief and lets us relax a little bit which leads to us performing better since we aren’t stressed out thinking of the worst.

MasterCard Diversity

Standard

MasterCard has come a long way in the Diversity sector.  The very first lady said, before diversity only meant “Race.”  Now MasterCard wants to take diversity to a whole new level and after watching this video they have showed diversity means so much more.  What caught my attention was the way the employee for Master Card express themself and What Diversity meant to them.  MasterCard wants to take a chance and show people what diversity is all about.

I felt each of these stood out, how MasterCard sees Diversity.

  • Bringing everyone’s uniqueness together makes MasterCard.
  • Bringing various types of experiences and celebrating all the different Values, Beliefs and accept everyone.
  • Bring able to be open about your sexuality and supportive.
  • Everyone can help bring New and different ideas to help provide better service.
  • Working abroad with others and expanding business in another country.

Living in area where there is a military base brings all types of people.  Working in the same area lets us view all different types of cultures.  When I worked for Bank of America we saw every type of customers from all over the world.  I know I took some unique aspect from all the different people I worked with.  Being familiar with different backgrounds will help us provide better service to our customers because we can better understand them.

Being able to be open about your sexuality really surprised me.  MasterCard being such a huge company is letting America know that there is nothing wrong with the way you look, who you love or where you’re from.
